  15.                Parse-O-Matic lets you move data between programs that
  16.                normally can not understand each other's data.  It converts
  17.                reports from one program into a format useful to the other
  18.                one.  Instead of retyping all the data, you can print your
  19.                report to a file, then convert it to the format appropriate
  20.                for importing, such as comma-delimited or columnar.  This
  21.                lets you interface programs that previously had no explicit
  22.                connection, such as AccPac and Lotus 1-2-3.
  23.                Parse-O-Matic is controlled by non-procedural definition
  24.                files (known as POM files) which specify the various parts
  25.                of the input file and describe how those parts should be
  26.                reassembled to create the output file. Once you have created
  27.                a POM file, you can create a batch file which passes the
  28.                relevant information (name of POM file, name of input file,
  29.                name of output file) to Parse-O-Matic, and thus automate the
  30.                conversion of data.
  31.                The alternative to Parse-O-Matic is the purpose-written
  32.                program.  Producing these programs is time-consuming and
  33.                introduces a maintenance problem. Parse-O-Matic's POM files
  34.                can be quickly modified, using an ordinary text editor.
  35.                This makes Parse-O-Matic ideal for information
  36.                administrators who frequently find themselves in situations
  37.                in which they are required to maintain remote applications
  38.                by phone.
